This is a treat for sure. Genders is a largely unpublicized group of noise artists from Detroit. They've made dozens upon dozens of tapes over the years, but that is really it, mostly tapes because they respect the analog quality of sound. Member Jeffery Thomas told me once that it is about how sounds can "degrade" on analog media while it remains constant once made digital. The "degrading" sound isn't bad in his opinion, it is the music changing over time, to make something new and unexpected. Truly he was right in my experience, I played a tape he gave me so much it wrapped and slowed until it eventually magnetic tape snapped inside my walkman. However, for sharing the interesting sounds with a larger population the conversion of the sounds into digital formats becomes desirable. The lo-fi recordings retain their home-studio feeling, but the alteration of the songs over time vanishes for this EP. Still very much worth a good listen the 6 songs of the EP add up to slightly less than half and hour of play. As for changing the format of his music on him; I do feel Genders wouldn't disagree with Woody Guthrie's quote: "This song is Copyrighted in U.S., under Seal of Copyright #154085, for a period of 28 years, and anybody caught singin' it without our permission, will be mighty good friends of ourn, cause we don't give a dern. Publish it. Write it. Sing it. Swing to it. Yodel it. We wrote it, that's all we wanted to do."
